  1. When you first get your hand on your skinny jeans. Remember to use a little bit salt or vinegar, and soak the jeans with cold water for 10-15 minutes. This way locks in the dye’s color, keeping your jeans dark and your furniture clean.
  2. Jeans are better washed by hand. Turn the jeans inside out and always use cold water to wash them. Water, both warm and hot, not only fades your denim—it causes shrinkage. If you’re barely able to squirm into your skinny jeans, a hot bath is the last thing they need. Even if you don’t use a dryer, hot water will cause fabric to expand and then shrink. If you must use a washing machine, don’t mix different colors of denims together, turn the machine to soft turbo and dryer the skinny denim in low heat.
  3. Hang your jeans outside. Your dryer poses just as much of a threat to your denim as the washer. High temperatures will make your jeans shrink, and all the tumbling leads to unnecessary wear and tear. If it’s a nice day outside, hang your favorite pair outdoors. Having your jeans air out gives them a rejuvenated scent—just make sure they’re out of direct sunlight. The bright star we refer to as “the sun” can bleach your jeans faster than you’d think.
  4. Freshening Jeans Between Wearings. It’s not a bad idea to hang previously worn jeans that you intend to wear again on a sturdy pants hanger in a place with good circulation—near a window or fan would be great—to help them air out between wearings. Buy a commercial fabric refresher. Or you can make a DIY version by diluting 1 tablespoon of baking soda in 2 cups of water and adding 5-10 drops of essential oil (choose your favorite scent!). You can also decant white vinegar or vodka into a spray bottle and use that as a deodorizer.
  5. The appeal of Raw or “dry” denim jeans is the unique way their aesthetic develops over time. The rule of thumb for raw denim is to not wash them for six months. Washing will fade the dye too quickly, wearing them for an extended period of time will naturally fade certain areas and distress others. Since water is the last thing you want to touch these types of jeans, you can freeze them for a quick refresh. Freezing kills some bacteria, and bacteria are the prime cause of unpleasant odors. This isn’t a sure-fire fix, though—plenty of other bacteria must be heated if you want them to go away.

Stop ruining your jeans, follow the above steps, you will own your skinny jeans for long long time.
